I have been asked on here why I suddenly decided to write my story when I have been retired for so long. As I explain in the introduction, I haven't suddenly decided to write it. I started many years ago, and with the pressures of a business and a family it took me a very long time to complete it. I think the question could have been - is my story still relevant after all these years? I think it clearly is relevant because the best British runners are now running slower times than I did 25 years ago. My hope is that someone will learn something from my experience, which makes him or her into a better runner. There was a good article in the Independent on Sunday today, which reviews the book and discusses this point. Click here to read it.

The book is published! It brings a great sense of relief and satisfaction. For years I have worried about finishing it, and then worried about how it would look when printed. I am happy with its appearance, but now I can start worrying about whether anybody will buy it.
I think the fact that I always do this thing of looking for the next step as soon as I have reached the one I was aiming for was a major factor in pushing my running career forward.
