Sold out! 12/21/2009
21/Dec/09 I am delighted by the great reviews the book has received, thrilled by how popular it has become and surprised by the sudden surge in sales leading up to Christmas. With three shopping days left, we have no books left in the warehouse. A second print run is organised but it won't be complete until mid January. There are still books for sale in a large variety of shops, and I can supply a list of outlets to anyone who writes to info@charliespedding.com I will take this opportunity to thank everyone for their terrific support of From Last to First. Got the book today, a very good read. I particularly enjoyed the LA84 marathon section, a pity there weren't pictures, that would have made the book even better.

Hi Charlie - I got your book for my birthday in early December and really enjoyed it. It's motivated me to do two things this year: run a sub-3 marathon, and do a cross country race for the first time. Thanks!

... just something else i wanted to mention regarding the interesting debate (raised towards the end of the book) on the declining standards in mens' distance running in the UK. Between 1992 and 1995 I achieved selection for English Schools twice and ran 4.04 for 1500m when i was 16. I then suffered a series of knee and lower back injuries, which meant i didn't compete in any major races until i went to univeristy and did the BUSAs in my 2nd year. During my time out of the sport though, despite great support from my coach Dave Clarke, I never once received a call, email or inquiry from any governing body or English Schools representative as to what had happened. The general opinion was that I'd just 'gone off the rails' or lost interest, which couldn't be further from the truth. I don't know if this is different today but it strikes me that the sport needs people at the top closely monitoring the progress of our best junior and inter distance runners. If they suddenly stop appearing at major championships, questions need to be asked 'why not and what can we do to get him back on track?'. With global communications as they are today, this must be easier to do. There was a huge drop-out rate of promising junior/inter runners at this time.. Richard Mann, Scott West, Jamie Kennedy, Kevin Farrow and whilst I'm not exactly sure as to all of their reasons, these were certainly some of the names destined to be the distance stars of 2009.

No one would have doubted his ability to reign had he never been emperor.
