I have been asked on here why I suddenly decided to write my story when I have been retired for so long. As I explain in the introduction, I haven't suddenly decided to write it. I started many years ago, and with the pressures of a business and a family it took me a very long time to complete it. I think the question could have been - is my story still relevant after all these years? I think it clearly is relevant because the best British runners are now running slower times than I did 25 years ago. My hope is that someone will learn something from my experience, which makes him or her into a better runner. There was a good article in the Independent on Sunday today, which reviews the book and discusses this point. Click here to read it.

Many thanks for your book. "I was running as fast as I dared. Today was indeed the day"! Well put, a marvellous read. Many aspects very well covered; training-wise, I particularly appreciated the specifics about peaking.
